In the territories home to the Mapuche communities — whose lands have been seized by capitalist investors, disfigured by loggers, ravaged by energy companies, polluted by industrialists and colonized by accomplices of the Chilean state — the last few decades have been marked by unrelenting struggle.
The radical Mapuche struggle inspires us for its continuity, for its categorical rejection of all state interference, for its relentless fight against exploitation and capitalist plundering, and for its choice of direct action against extractivism and the devastation of the land and the living. In a “lost” corner of the world, people with ways of living that are antagonistic to capitalism and statism are fighting to keep or regain every meter of land that has been taken over and exploited by corporations and the state. At a time when the consequences of the frenzied advance of the industrial and technological machine are increasingly felt worldwide, when climatic changes caused by industrialization could set into motion unprecedented scenarios which risk drastically reconfiguring the foundations of domination, this struggle could have implications well beyond the territory of Wallmapu.
This collection gathers texts from the Mapuche resistance in the territories under the domination of the Chilean state. Preceded by a historical analysis of the radical Mapuche struggle, these texts cover one year of struggle (from 2021 to 2022).
The original French edition was published in 2022 by La Souterraine, éditions anarchistes.

Introduction to the German release
Tiqqunism or appelism was never able to gain as much traction in the German speaking area as in France. Nevertheless the “Coming Insurrection” created some hype and is occasionally used as an example of insurrectionary theory within discussion, whereas the criticism by anarchists is ignored. In recent years some pro-appelist publications and texts have appeared, which have thankfully sank into obscurity quite quickly. Traditionally, in local struggles, various post-autonomous cadavers take the role of “radical” recuperators and try to take control in self-organized struggles, as well as to impose their interpretative authority over them. Besides raising awareness of the fancy clothes in which the servants of power can appear, this is also where the importance of confronting recuperation in other territories lies: those responsible may differ, but the tactics are similar or even the same.
With this collection, Ungrateful Hyenas offered a contribution to understanding appelism in North America by collecting texts which are partly available in German, but have not been distributed for a few years. The other texts are unknown outside of interested circles and were newly translated to German from the English version. In contrast to the original, the chapter “A Composition” by Ungrateful Hyenas has been omitted, as it is a piecing together from and references texts that are not available in German.
The term “composition,” used repeatedly in the texts collected here, has been retained in German. The reason for this is, on the one hand, that it’s been several years since the translator has engaged with appelist texts so the memory of how this term was translated into German has faded, and any attempt to read texts from this perspective evokes nausea. On the other hand, the available German translations of pro-appelist texts are more of an example of bad, technological translations than a reference point. Sappiamo bene che ogni struttura contenitiva, ogni istituzione, ogni gabbia è un ostacolo al perseguimento del nostro desiderio di libertà, ma tendiamo spesso a forgiarci da solx le nostre stesse catene. Allora la lotta contro le istituzioni di reclusione, come le carceri, gli allevamenti, gli istituti psichiatrici, la famiglia, la religione, lo scientismo, i centri di detenzione per migranti, con le loro rispettive ideologie, dovrebbe includere anche una riflessione sulle nostre relazioni e sulle strutture che servono a contenere la fluidità del nostro desiderio per incanalarlo in forme produttive e intelligibili, portandoci a negoziare misure di austerità per fare fronte alla scarsità di affetto, amore, intimità, supporto emotivo che regna nel nostro mondo di relazioni. Il testo che segue offre spunti di riflessione importanti sui limiti del modello “coppia” e su come le nostre relazioni sentimentali, sessuali e affettive interagiscano con la nostra rete più estesa di amicizie, complicità e affinità in un contesto di lotta al sistema, per puntare alla creazione di una diversa ecologia delle relazioni.
